  • An absolute pleasure. 10 years ago we visited Yellowstone, and I rented a mountain bike from Freeheel and Wheel for a few days. It was a wonderful experience, riding it along the CDT just west of West Yellowstone. Here we are 10 years later, and had the chance to visit Yellowstone in the winter. Happened to be during quite a cold snap (-36F as a low one night). During this trip, we hiked, snowshoed, snowmobiled to Old Faithful, and the capstone was the chance to try Nordic skiing. Which my wife and I LOVED. Melissa was awesome, set us up with boots, skis, poles, gave us great suggestions over where to try, some pointers on technique, and suggested we wait til it warmed up a tad. We were eager to learn, so gave ourselves a test run on the Boundary Trail (complete newbies). After a fall or two, we figured it out pretty well, and went for lunch at The Buffalo Bar. After lunch, we set about the work of exploring the Riverside Trail. We headed out in some nearly virgin tracks, and hit most of the Upriver Loop. Seeing the Madison River with so much snow in it was beautiful! (photo) Despite a minor fall where I tweaked my ankle, we had a wonderful time, and will definitely try XC skiing again, thanks to this great experience! Thank you Freeheel and Wheel!
  • Stellar crew. Good quality rental equipment. Everyone was super nice. Hike recommendation was perfect for the conditions. Great little shop. Even if you don’t rent gear, do go in for a coffee. They have some cool staff!
