Explore a historical psychiatric hospital at Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, which was open from 1864 to 1994. Now a National Historic Landmark, the imposing main building is one of the largest hand-cut stone masonry buildings in the world. The hospital was designed to accommodate just 250 patients but became crowded with about 2,400 patients, living in poor conditions, during the 1950s. Choose from a variety of guided tours based around subjects such as the American Civil War, asylum treatments and history, and the paranormal. The hospital is reportedly haunted and has been featured on a number of paranormal television programs. Make your Weston itinerary with Inspirock to find out what to see and where to go.

Did the Daytime Paranormal Tour with Alyssa and it was great! The place has a vibe to it even in the daylight, so I can imagine what the nighttime tour would be like. Staff is very knowledgeable...

The folks here are doing a fabulous job of preserving the history and memories of this old asylum. I signed on for a PM photography tour and appreciated the space and time they gave me to do my "thing." I was not hassled about photography equipment and the such. I truly appreciate them working with us. I look for to my next visit. Tip, bring a flashlight and wear sturdy footwear! Thanks to all for their hard work that allows the public to view the facilities.

This place was amazing, the staff was awesome, our tour guide was great! She really did a great job explaining the history and some of the stories of the place, we had to leave early due to a 6 hour drive in bad weather but we are already planning to come back spring/summer to get the full experience, really spooky place, had a run in with some of the locals there on the 3rd floor (raccoons). They scared us at first but ended up being super friendly and let us watch them eat some chips we had and get a good video. We can’t wait to see you guys again in a few months!
