  • Definitely a unique start to a NHS (NPS-type place) given your only option is to 'hike in'. But it's worth it, as the trail does give perspective on the land and why there was trade + conflict here.....  more

  • A unique National Historic Site with friendly and informative staff at the visitor's center (both the ranger and volunteer staff). We enjoyed the hike and roaming around the fort. The site geography meant the fort had a different feel compared to other historic fort sites we've visited. We appreciated the history as well as the geographic understanding of what made this a key location. There is ample parking space.
  • Rugged and beautiful part of the country, some great historical information and ruins. Went after hours and did a self-guided tour, there was no one there. The hike from the parking lot is a mile and a half moderate each way and then you walk another couple miles looking at ruins. Dogs are supposed to be leashed especially around the ruins. There is a visitor center that is recommended, but I missed it and will go back.
