Jamestown Settlement offers a living recreation of the first successful English colony in North America. Located near the actual archaeological Jamestown site, the museum provides an open-air display of replica 17th-century buildings, a fort, and colonial life. You can explore the social history of the settlement through a series of exhibits and galleries, and experience a life-size Powhatan Native American village. To track the journey of the Jamestown colonists to the New World, don't miss the three sailing ships docked in the river. Visit the museum's gift shop for historical-themed souvenirs, hand-made ceramics, jewelry, and glassware. Jamestown Settlement Reviews
I had a great experience on this trip to Jamestown Settlement. The information was so helpful and the day was just perfect more »
Everyone should experience this at least once. It gives a new appreciation for what the founders went through. Amazing they survived at all! I did not know that they cannibalized their dead to survive... more »
Visited it many times. Make sure to ask about discounts for AAA members and such. The building holds the main inside exhibit but also a changing exhibit, a theater, gift shop, and cafe. Entry fee comes with a very nice map. Beyond the main building is the three ships, the Indian settlement and the Jamestown settlement. There are guides stationed here and there to explain about life in the 17th century and can be a lot of fun. And a lot of walking. And make sure to go in good weather. To be honest if you love history you could EASILY spend much of your day here. Video and photos not allowed in the exhibits but I assume it is allowed in the settlement. Just be well mannered and ask before taking one of the employees images. Only polite.
Lots of fun for kids and adults. Lots of things to explore on your own or with guidance. It seemed more commercial than the national park next door, but turned out to be very historical. Do both for a nice balance!
