After Virginia seceded from the United States, the president of the College of William & Mary at the time, Benjamin Ewell began planning a defense of Williamsburg. This also was in conjunction with the the Confederate Army of the Peninsula constructing redoubts, military fortifications between College and Queen Creeks. Two of the redoubts are preserved in the park. The parks has a wooden boardwalk through the original redoubts and has several historical markers and signs were you can learn more about the Civil War and Battle of Williamsburg.

  • Super cool park in Williamsburg with lots of history. We hiked the mile long trail (.5 in and .5 out) to redoubt #2 with our dog this past weekend. It wasn't anything too strenuous but wasn't a flat walk either. There are some stairs and it's a bit hilly but not bad. I'm not sure I'd call it moderately difficult like the sign posted says. We wished the trail were a little longer but still enjoyed it!
  • It’s just an okay trail ^_^ the paved section is very short maybe a nice short 10min walk (maybe less) ^_^ the turtle trail was longer. Only thing was there were a few trees down that we had to duck under or hop over.
