Ark Encounter, Williamstown

#4 of 121 in Museums in Kentucky
The Ark Encounter is a one-of-a-kind historically themed attraction. In an entertaining, educational, and immersive way, it presents a number of historical events centered on a full-size, all-wood Ark, which is the largest timber-frame structure in the world.

Additional future phases for the attraction include a Walled City, the Tower of Babel, a first-century Middle Eastern village, a journey in history from Abraham to the parting of the Red Sea, a walk-through aviary, an expanded large petting zoo, and so on.

It is designed to be family oriented, historically authentic, and environmentally friendly.

We also plan for the Ark Encounter to eventually include daily live mammal and bird shows, an extensive interactive children’s area, live entertainment, and many themed restaurants, creative food outposts, and shopping.

The Ark Encounter is one of the largest “green” construction projects in the country, taking advantage of the latest environmental technologies to be good stewards of creation.

  • So awesome, it is almost overwhelming! Be sure to allow yourself several hours to take it all in and to be able to read all the wonderful information. Nice gift shop. Nice outdoor area but it was not ...  more »
  • About time we built this big ship for all to see in Kentucky. God is proud of us. Wow what a boat it is. 510 feet long, 85 feet wide, 51 feet high. You will be blown away by the sheer size of God's ne...  more »
  • What a fun way to make the Noah’s ark bible event come to life. Not only do you learn fun facts about the ark but it is an all around gospel presentation. We took 4 kids ages 6,5,3&2 and it was easy to maneuver with a single stroller with a scooter board on the back. The kids seemed a bit bored as most of it is reading and they just aren’t there yet. I wish the model of the ark had more space because we couldn’t see it and people kept pushing in front of us. I am glad we went on a Monday as it wasn’t super busy. Expert tip: * purchase your tickets ahead of time so you skip the line. * do the buffet it is inexpensive and good * make time to do the zoo it is small but entertaining. * wear comfortable shoes you walk up ramps and across the ark several times. Overall very cool trip and would recommend going with a little bit older kids. Just didn’t have enough hands on stuff for young elementary kids or preschool. Petting zoo inside was cool but they had 3 donkey and some cockroaches. No bunnies or guinea pigs or birds.
  • We had a fantastic time here with our 3 boys aged 8, 6 & 1.5 yrs. Buffet was delicious. Exhibits were interesting. Penny machine was fun. Loved the gem & fossil mining, $6. Camel ride was a big hit and affordable at $8. Kids had a great time. Definitely worth the $.
