Nemours Estate, Wilmington

4.6
Witness one of the finest examples of Louis XVI-Rococo architecture outside of Europe at Nemours Estate. Alfred l. du Pont commissioned the 121 hectare (300 acre) country estate in 1909 as a gift for his second wife and in celebration of his French heritage. The chateau-style mansion and expansive French formal gardens can be explored through a guided tour. Inside, visitors are treated to valuable 18th-century French furniture and artworks by European masters, while the outside reveals imposing fountains, reflective pools, and lush woodland. Be sure to wear sensible shoes to ensure your comfort when exploring the large property. Garden tours must be booked in advance. • Amazing. Barely anyone was there on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Extremely well kept place. Friendly and informative staff. No food or drink for sell so plan on bringing your own food. Drinking water fountains are available in the main office and in front of the Mansion. Really worth a visit. Had a great time.
  • Beautiful property with lots of history. Even after you leave, the elegance and deep meaning and history stays with you. Enjoyed talking to the very friendly staff. For those with small kids, no strollers allowed (they have stroller parking). To all, no bags allowed (you can put it on your front if you bring one). Plan ahead!
