Witness one of the finest examples of Louis XVI-Rococo architecture outside of Europe at Nemours Estate. Alfred l. du Pont commissioned the 121 hectare (300 acre) country estate in 1909 as a gift for his second wife and in celebration of his French heritage. The chateau-style mansion and expansive French formal gardens can be explored through a guided tour. Inside, visitors are treated to valuable 18th-century French furniture and artworks by European masters, while the outside reveals imposing fountains, reflective pools, and lush woodland. Be sure to wear sensible shoes to ensure your comfort when exploring the large property. Garden tours must be booked in advance. Put Nemours Estate at the forefront of your travel plans using our Wilmington trip planner.

  • This was a beautiful treat. Never heard of it but saw the street placard and decided to visit. We only had an hour before closing but loved everything and will return for a longer visit.

  • This is a beautiful place to visit. Staff are friendly, helpful, and excited to share knowledge. The group tours are informative and fun. There is a lot to explore and learn about. The house itself has an intense amount of beauty that words are not able to concisely describe. Also a special shout-out to Ashley for offering a ride back up to the main gates after being out walking all day long. The cold water offered at no charge was very nice.
  • My wife and I had a wonderful experience touring the estate and gardens. The staff was also very knowledgeable and answered any questions we had. It was great being able to hear more of the history behind some of the rooms and artifacts from them! We spent about 4 and a half hours there and pretty sure we got to see everything. Highly recommend if you are in the area and are looking for something to do!
