Airlie Gardens, Wilmington

#1 of 9 in Historic Sites in Wilmington
Embark on a self-guided walking tour of the sculpted formal gardens at Airlie Gardens. More than 100,000 azaleas and numerous camellias bloom along the walking trails that weave throughout this garden by the sea. Along the way, you'll get glimpses of Bradley Creek and many freshwater lakes. Look for the ancient, 467-year-old Airlie oak tree. At the butterfly house, watch 11 species of native butterflies as you learn about their life cycle and which plants allow them to thrive. Other features include the Bottle Chapel, Lebanon Chapel, and Mystery Grave, which supposedly belongs to one of Napoleon's marshals. • Its is beautiful. Very well kept and looks amazing right now. The grounds are always well maintained never any sign of trash. I would suggest going right now while all the tulips are in full bloom. We were surprised to see they have a lovely cherry blossom tree near the spring gardens.
  • A perfect place for a daytime date. Absolutely loved the gardens, beautifully kept grounds and gorgeous tulips are in bloom currently. We loved it and spent just over an hour & a half walking about, sitting by the fountains, and going out to the water. The military rate for tickets is great and much appreciated. Will definitely visit again!
