  • Recommend to get a map from the Slade Welcome Center to get updated road conditions. As of April 10, 2021, eastern part of Hwy 715 loop around the Red River Gorge is closed due to heavy rain that...  more »
  • What a gorgeous place! We hiked the Sky Bridge trail, Chimney Top trail, and the Princess Arch trail with our two dogs. Chimney Top is the easiest - you could do it with a jogging stroller - though...  more »

  • 29,000 acre geological area boasting waterfalls, rock shelters, and over 100 sandstone arches. I've visited dozens and dozens of times and I'm always in awe of all the beauty. A truly special place. Day hiking is free. To primitive camp overnight you'll need a pass which you can attain at the Shell gas station at the Slade exit, a couple surrounding businesses, and of course the ranger station. Day pass is $3, three day pass $5, week pass $7. Literally hundreds and hundreds of awesome primitive campsites both in the valley and up around the ridges. There are also pay campsites scattered throughout the area. Having a map of trails and formations is a must. Free basic map available at the Slade Shell, more advanced maps available at most businesses. Firewood sold throughout area at people's homes. Have fun, be safe! **Highly recommend**
  • Had an awesome day hiking. Couldn't figure out how to get below the Star Gap Arch. There happen to be two guys there, one flying a drone (the only people that we'd seen) so I asked if he knew how. Just my lucky day to ask a professional trail mapper who has published several books on hiking the gorge. Told us exactly what to do and told us how to get to Sky View Arch. Made our day.
