  • Loved hiking the Anvil trail round trip. Schoodic is beautiful, uncrowded, with lots of looks outs, pull offs, little shops. I may prefer to MDI although not as much to do probably  more »
  • This is very enjoyable hike with a spectacular view at the top. We took the less challenging Alder Trail up and back. Still plenty of rocks 'n roots!  more »

  • Somewhat challenging hike/climb, although at 1.3 miles from trailhead to summit, it can be easily completed in three or four hours. It took me 1.5 hours up and slightly less down although I certainly did not rush and spent some time looking around. There are some pretty steep sections that require strength and agility, although no advanced climbing equipment or techniques are required. Like any mountain climb, the views are the payoff and Schoodic does not disappoint. 360 views into pristine (except for the horrible wind farm in the distance) Northern Maine: Cadillac Mountain and Mt. Desert Island towards the South; fantastic Eastern vistas across to Black Mountain and Downeast costal Maine. The trail is fairly well marked, although I did find a couple of spots confusing since the trail could have gone either direction in the absence of trail markers. On the way down you have an option to take the Donnell Pond trail or go back the way you came. Donnell Pond is a great swimming spot and is only about a half mile away from the trail head. I wouldn't take kids, pets or anyone not physically able to climb steep, mountainous terrain.
  • Steep hike but wonderful views and a lovely spot to go swimming after. I wouldn't personally bring my kids or pets but have seen it many times.
