  • Fatbiking in this area is amazing. Nordic skiing is stellar. The grocery store people are wonderful and beautiful scenery.  more »
  • The Methow River carves out one of my favorite places in the state. It is the primary drainage for the east side of the North Cascades. It begins high on the Cascade divide, picks up tributaries like the Twisp River, and joins the mighty Columbia River at Pateros. Alpine peaks and forests yield to the dry rainshadow of the east side. The river valley can be cold and snowy in winter and baking hot in summer. Two European explorers "discovered" the river in 1811 already inhabited by indigenous people. David Thompson and Alexander Ross claimed such credit. The river bore several native names, but the more pronouncable Methow stuck which means "Land of Sunflower Seeds".
