Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellowstone National Park

4.7
#3 of 83 in Parks in Yellowstone National Park
At nearly 113 m (370 ft) across and 37 m (121 ft) deep, Grand Prismatic Spring holds the title of the largest hot spring in America and one of the largest in the world. A premier attraction at Yellowstone National Park, the spring's fame traces back to early explorers and fur trappers who first noted it in the early 1800s. The boiling pool constantly steams and bubbles, with its vivid, rainbow-like appearance--the result of pigmented bacteria. To get a close-up view, walk along the park's boardwalk, which leads to a route close to the water's edge. Stay on the path, as the high temperatures of the pool can be dangerous. • The photos of this spring are incredible, and iconic. It's hard to take a bad photo, as the spring is a rainbow of colour. Finding a parking spot will probably take a while, there is often a queue.  more »
  • Impressive what the earth can do. Tremendous what the basicity or acidity of the earth can do with the water and the colors that change. Wonderful colors, something incredible. Beware of smells, it may not be to your liking. A lot of people usually cover up with a handkerchief. The pictures reflect what it really is. The positions that is like that are called is something wonderful, fantastic.

  • Without exaggeration, seeing the Grand Prismatic Spring was one of the best experiences of my life. There are some incredible places that are frustratingly difficult to capture in a snapshot. Yellowstone National Park is one of them. Photos can't do justice to its beauty, you need to see it in real life. It's a wonderful and educational place that everyone needs to visit at least once in a lifetime.
  • Beautiful in pictures. Beautiful in person. True natural beauty! It takes a bit of walking from the parking lot to the Grand Prismatic Spring but it's totally worth it.
