Natural Bridge Trail, Yellowstone National Park

Geologic Formation · Hidden Gem · Hiking Trail
Meandering through old growth forest and skirting flowery meadows, Natural Bridge Trail is a fairly-level, partly-paved hiking and biking trail that leads to an 18 m (51 ft) tall cliff cut through by Bridge Creek. A lookout beneath the bridge allows you to observe the stream dropping from the edge of a volcanic plateau, but the views from behind the bridge and through the opening are far more impressive. It's possible to climb a steep, zigzagging trail to the top of the bridge, carpeted by fallen twigs. If you decide to cross the creek bed, watch your step for slippery rocks. Note that the trail remains closed until early summer due to foraging bears.
