Ghost Town · Tourist Spot
Get a taste of life on the frontier and camp under the stars at Calico Ghost Town. The town was once a bustling silver mining community with more than 1,000 residents, 500 mines, a school, and a post office. When silver prices dropped near the end of the 19th century, the miners started leaving, and soon the town was completely abandoned. Today, you can tour the buildings--fully restored to match their 1880s' heyday--go on a horseback ride, hear the stories of the town's past, or grab a spot at a nearby camping site. You'll be in the desert heat, so be sure to bring sunscreen and plenty of water. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Yermo holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Calico Ghost Town and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • LOVE CALICO GHOST TOWN. Ive been coming here for 25 years. I used to be stationed near by and i would take people here who visited me. A lot has changed with the ghost town over the years actually. I think its probably for the better. It has a much more fun feel to it. Last year I brought about 30 people up here on a motorcycle ride. We ate at the restaurant. Everyone had a blast and then we took a nice group picture at the end in the Photo Saloon. Fun times. This place is great for families
  • Me and my 16 year old son had a blast there. Cozy cabins kept us cool in 104 degree and the night ghost tour with Maggie's mine was the best. Real friendly people . The best was the mystery shack that guy had us laughing so much good times great memories.
