Take in the majesty of Yosemite from Glacier Point, a viewing area 980 m (3,214 ft) above the bottom of the valley. From here you can admire and photograph Yosemite Falls, Half Dome, Vernal Fall, Nevada Fall, and Clouds Rest. Depending on the time of year, the spot is accessible by car, bus, foot, or skis. From the parking lot, you must walk along a short, paved trail to get to the viewpoint. If you are feeling adventurous, set off on a hike from here. Bring along some munchies or purchase some snacks from the visitor center for a meal with a view. Put Glacier Point and other Yosemite National Park attractions into our Yosemite National Park attractions planner, and watch your holiday take shape.
Glacier Point reviews
Best view of the whole Yosemite Valley, at least among places that don't require a considerable hike. You can get a very good sense of the geography and the landmarks of Yosemite. Nevada, Vernal..... more »
This is a great look over Yosemite NP from the top. We spent day one exploring the top before we went to valley. The only issue was we had a lot of haze from California fires, but it was kind of... more »
Been to Yosemite a dozen times or so (camping, hiking, etc... ) yet this was my first time to Glacier Point. I so don’t want to say this in fear it may generate even more visitors… but…. This is absolutely the best spot to see Yosemite for your regular visitor. That is, those that don’t plan on hiking dozens of miles and camping out for days. Here you just drive up to this site and be amazed by the view. It’s such a great location, it doesn’t seem like you can take a bad picture. There is a hike from the valley up and from Glacier point back down if you want to hike the miles and altitude but for those that can’t, I can’t think of a better place to see Yosemite, and I’ve driven a few roads in the park, all have very nice views but at Glacier Point, they are amazing. Here you can take pictures you will want to hang up on your wall. Glacier Point does close in the winter and when it snows as you are going up to over 7k elevation, so you can only visit when it’s open, late spring to fall depending on the weather. For anyone who loves nature and like finding those locations with a view, this is absolutely a must for your bucket list. My list was checked but not just checked off as I will be returning at lease one more time. On a clear nice day like when I went this July 15 2019, all you can say is .., wow. Definitely T-Rex approved.
Best place to see the dome at sunset! It may takes a while to get there but it's all worth it once you get there... Even I been in Yosemite many times this is by far the best views...so dramatic and sunset with the light lighting up the half dome is breath taking. Unforgettable views and memories. If you are unsure to go or not, just go, you'll be pleased you did it.
